So most of the sixguns site and forum modules (the engines behind what you see, upload, etc) are getting long of the tooth and are no longer supported by the community, assume sometime in the near future we will be making major changes to the site. It may result in downtime, limited access, fubar, quien sabe? Anyway, I'll experiment with the sister "Elmer Keith Memorial" site first as the same thing is happening there. Bear with me, this ain't my day job. If anyone knows a young buck/ webmaster/ php ninja who would like to help, let me know.
Thanks--
Al

Will check back later, just happened to be around this w/e but normally outside more, at least until winter really sets in. :)
...Jsquints
stop by any time for any or no reason
Thanks.
Shopping for soninlaw ... he loves to sip and not really a bourbon fella, so far anyway. Any suggestions?
Also, working on low vel., heavy bullet handloads with 4227 in revolver... any general thoughts on an idea of minimum percentage of burn? and minimum case capacity? with this propellant that I should be looking for. 4.75inch & 7.5inch bbls'.
Have used this powder with published brisk loads, for many many years.
There is a local distillery that produces excellent sipping whiskey, Westland Distillery. My goto for gift spirits.
My goto for reduced recoil is Titegroup behind a 240-250 gr Keith pill. Keep us informed.
My earlier post about downloading 4227 is removed, please disregard, downloading for some is 240 Gr bullet at 1200fps, others 800 fps. Stick with published loads, and if you work outside that envelope do so with caution.

Okeedoke, done and thanks for best practices re-enforcement tip and totally agree. Will check out Westlake whiskey too.
More specifics on 4227.
Yeah, prefer fast powders for reduced 'light' bullet loads too. Then have used Medium burn powders for moderate velocities.
And actually prefer Medium burn powders for reduced 'heavy' bullet loads. (eg). HS6 seems to work well, but do not prefer Titegroup for 300g-400g bullets myself, though listed.
However, Lyman 50th also lists 4227 with 185g (etc.) copper bullets for reduced loads as well and I like these loads too.
But have also been looking for reputable tested 4227 data at reduced velocity (800fps or less) in the 400g bullet range. Where muzzle PSI is still around 2k. TrailBoss is fine for some heavy 'lead' bullets (at 600fps or so) but NOT copper bullets, since copper could easily stick in the barrel.
Believe Mr Taffin lists something like 15 or 16g of 4227 with 300g 'lead' in 45Colt. I am loading 475 caliber right now, 325g to 406g old Pennys bullets.
Looking for good source(s) for 270g to 325g PB for low velocity loads in .480 Ruger/476. Thinking below 16 bhn hardness for 600 to 800 fps.
Also, in 45 colt modern guns (185g to 250g) but still have a pretty decent stock in 45s, at least for now.
Just for conversation ... like plated & longer 'hollow base bullets' too but not required. Wish list someday would be 250g-270g hollow base in .476 for both 480 Ruger & 475 Linebaugh, again not required otherwise would custom order mould.
Guns are Ruger & FA.
Thanks for any help, realize may have to wait till things get back to normal in the shooting industry but still interested in quality sourcing for bullets.
Hello all,
Haven't been here in a while, due to circumstances beyond my control. Just a quick note on heavy for caliber handloads for revolvers.
1) Be certain that you bullet diameters a close as possible to cylinder throat diameter.
2) Softer alloys are better.
3) Veocities should be kept just brushing up to the low end of what is needed.
If you follow these guidelines, you'll be happier than not. Remember, a sixgun has been compared to a drill press. Past a certain point, you just need a bigger bullet.
Good to hear from you. Not much activity here lately. Built a couple 1911's.
Lots and lots of excellent articles and sure appreciate!
On another note:
Next loading and shooting project will be with Ruger's Bisley 45 Colt New Vaquero 5.5 inch. Have a dozen or more bullet weights-styles, but thinking between 200gr RNFP coated, 225gr SWC lubed (by colo-cast), 253gr RNFP lubed (which have shot alot of in FA 454) or 255gr SWC lubed (by colo-cast). The .452 throats are all uniform and accomadate all of these just fine. Think will go with w231 this go around with 12bhn bullets and hope to match bullet hardness with appropriate PSI. Will run it by QuickLOAD before deciding on powder.
