I just bought myself a birthday present to assuage the pain of another remodeling project. I saw a thing about the Magnetospeed chronograph on Youtube, and decided it looked like an interesting technology. It doesn't rely on light and the bullets shadow to calculate speed. It tracks the bullet's travel through magnetic fields. And, since it clamps to the rifle or revolvers barrel, you get true muzzle velocity. The computer that comes with it also retains the velocities of a string and calculates min, max, ave, and sd for you in case you are a demented physicist like me.
Anyway, so far, it works. Check it out on Youtube, I go there for reviews as well as assembly and disassembly videos.
Holy Magneto

Mike, you will have to give us reports on that system and how it works out for accurate results etc. Are you going to compare it to a regular Chrono? Will it fit on a cannon barrel????? Chris S
I have to use the F1 Chrony for the cannon. The MagnetoSpeed only goes up to a one inch barrel. They do make a model for larger barrels, but I only have a few that go over that. As soon as this protracted rainy season ends, I will be able to do more testing and comparisons.
My wife is going to Montana for a couple of weeks in August, so maybe the weather will cooperate then. The dogs and I will be doing Wilderness Family film festivals nightly. The dogs like to cheer for Crust, the dog who saves the stupid humans frequently. The cats always route for the cougar. They don't understand reruns.
And lots of fried Spam or chili dogs, too. And potato chips. And Cheetos.
Mike
Good luck with that. My dogs are the only one's I can talk too without getting yelled back at. I love Cheetos too, they are kind of hard to do without. I was just kidding about the chrono on the cannon but since you really check it what do you get for velocity? Chris S
