Boar with Freedom Arms 44mag

Went hunting boar at Tioga Ranch in Pennsylvania last month and took two boar using my Freedom Arms 44mag with their fiber optic front sight and square notch rear. Handload had a Swift 280gr A-frame over a stiff charge of H-110. Sat down with my back against tree and barrel rested on cross sticks. When the first boar stepped out of the sun into the shade of the forest he stopped Iand I hit him next to his left eye and dropped him instantly. The 2nd boar turned to my left and took off and put another 280gr in back of rib cage that angled through lungs and left near right fron leg. The shots were 20 and 25 yds. This is the 2nd boar and boar #1 is above...
James, how do the fiber optics compare with the other sight systems you have used? Just curious. Also, those are nice boars and great shooting. Chris
Congrats. Good job. The 44 mag is the KING OF HANDGUN CARTRIDGES. Nothing penetrates as well, or is a handy to carry for the power it has.
Right on, that looks like quite the hunt. Nice animals. I too believe the 44 mag is the quintessential handgun cartridge. If I had to choose one firearm over all the others it would be a 44.
Gunsmith, Sorry for the late reply. Got my head up my rear end lately.... The Freedom Arms version of the fiber optic front sight is the smallest diameter compared to others made by S&W and Ruger. When placed in the square notch rear on my FA`s 44 its kind of easy for me to align everything and make the shot. With my eyesight I just cannot pick up the black front/rear sights and target. From a rested bench and right ammo I can keep 5 shots from the FA 44 in a 3" group at 50yds. This is fantastic for me. As long as shots are 50yds and under and my gun is rested I feel confident in placing the bullet in the right place with my FA`s and the fiber optic setup....
James, it would be nice to see a close up picture of that front sight. I made one for my Python by cutting a notch in a Partridge type blade and drilling a hole through the blade for the fiber rod. It seems to work with the rear square notch fine as I can still see the square front post with a red dot. I forgot what diameter the fiber optic is, maybe a 1/32nd or so. If you look close at the picture you can see my homemade sight on the front. Chris
Chri, You did one hell of a nice job on your Python front sight. I`ll try and post a picture of my FA fiber optic...
Chis, This is what the Freedom Arms fiber optic front sight looks like in the field, James
James, thanks for the pic, that's exactly what I wanted to see. My front blade is a bit wider but I get pretty much the same picture on my Python. I have been using the red optic for target shooting but have thought about putting the green one in to try. Is the green better for hunting? Thanks James. Chris
Chris, To be honest the green is the only color I have for my FA`s and it works for me....
Once again Nice Hunt. I have always wanted to hunt there, since I was a kid, and saw the ads in Field and Stream for Russian Boar Hunts. The ads were exciting in themselves. Hope to get there someday. You have a fine gun, one of the tinest made anywhere in the world. I know the fine people at Freedom Arms, and they make QUALITY only. No junk, no cutting corners to incrase profits. This unlike the other compaies in the U.S. that have profit befor quality these days.
