Thought I would share my work of late. I tore my Colt New Frontier 45 apart and smoothed everything up and put it back together. Put my old walnut grips one just for a change of pace and thought it would shoot a bit better. So to date it has a new rear ellaison sight, smoothing job and old walnut grips. It's too much fun working on guns so now I will load some new ammo up to try it out. Chris

You are so brave...

...Sir!
I am so uncomfortable doing the above!   I've taken apart a Redhawk I used to have and took out the ejector rod on my new M629 4" to clean and Locktite the rod cause it was unscrewing under recoil,  Boy was I nervous doing both!!!

Super nice classic you have there!!!!!!

No Need To Be Afraid.

Chris, no need to fear, there's always help somewhere around the corner whether on here or at a shop. I personally have been taking things apart since I was a little kid but I didn't get real good at putting things back together until I got a little older and some smarter but I still don't know if I'm smart enough! I didn't really do too much to the Colt other than to smooth things up and make everything slick. I sure ain't no Bob Munden or anything but I think I helped my shooter a little bit. Chris

Taking apart

Guess I've been doing this toooo long. been shooting the same colt SAA for 60 years now, have 7 of em all originals.  Nothing hard about a SAA Colt. Changed every part in it several times, including different calibers, barrel lengths etc. If I can offer any advice, please ask.

Changing Barrels?

Pete, when you change barrels just curious as to what do you use for barrel vise and action wrench, Do you use store bought tools or did you make some up? Chris

Barrels

I've always used a piece of leather with rosin in a big bench vice. Hammer handle through the cylinder port. Never failed yet!! You do need a lathe or steady hand and file to lineup sights and fit cylinder. I'm Chris also, in Westcliffe, CO.

Glad to meet You!

Thanks for the reply, I remember reading a Skeeter Skelton story about his friend old Dobe who worked over sixguns the same way. Chris is a grand name ain't it! Chris
