I was wondering if anyone knew if federal is still producing 45 colt brass. I am currantly loading my vintage federal 45  colt brass I purchaced in the late 1980s and am now having the rims giving away and the case sticking in the sizing die. I would suspect that there is also comparable brass out there such as starline which I have a small supply but would realy like to get some federal brass if it is still produced as it was back then. Also has any brass manufacture came up with a 45 colt case with a larger rim area. I had heard that rumor and realize it would change alot in the 45 colt tooling arena,,shell holders ect. but if they had a little extra rim area back when I bought my supply of 45 colt brass I would still be handloading it.

At one time Georgia Arms

At one time Georgia Arms offered a case with a larger rim. It was called the .45 DA [double action]. It was a copy of the .45 Colt (1909) cartridge made for the Colt M1909 DA revolver. The purpose was to keep the small rim of the original .45 Colt from slipping under the star extractors of DA revolvers. I believe it was made for them by Starline.

327 federal heavy bullet molds

thanks for you informatioin on the 45 colst brass. I won't go into to much detail on my lack of information but I tend to get side tracked alot. Anyway I buillt this way to heavy 327 federal on a old model Ruger that started life as a 30 carbine{ Large Framed Ruger]. I put a extra long cylinder in it {unfluted] and did all the rest of the build with a custom barrel and a ruger Super Blackhawk grip frame ect-ect.Anyway ITs heavy, but shoots realy well without any recoil what so ever. My question is has anyone done any handloading with heavy cast bullets for this caliber. I have been shooting 110 grain bullets under a heavy load of 296 powder, but am thinking a heavy cast bullet would kill deer sized game witout any problem. I lost touch when LBT went out of business long ago, I heard though that they are back in business. Thanks
