Making It Clear

I guess through my rambling comments I didn't make my question clear about the .44 special. I don't and never have questioned the viability of the round. I was asking why, with the advent of the many fine handguns chambered  for the .44 magnum, would a person own a handgun chambered specifically for the .44 special? I do not discount the collectability of the old .44 specials such as those Sixgunner owns or the custom single actions being built.   For example I am going to save for a Smith & Wesson .44 something or other. I really like all the  fine ammunition produced for the .44 special, especially that produced by  Buffalo Bore. What is the advantage of buying a gun made specifically for the .44 special over a gun made for the .44 magnum? I have been eyeballing the new Smith nightguard in .44 special, but I'm not crazy about the alloy frame. For some reason it just don't sound right.
I hope I have made my question clear.

To sum up the answers?

You were clear, but maybe you were looking for a simpler answer. Personal preference?
