I know that the cylinder turn line is pretty much unavoidable but the one on my Ruger Vaquero looks especially bad.  Here is a pic from a while ago:

Its even worse now.  Is that what I should expect from a blued gun or is there a way to minimize the turn line?

Not Sure

Not really much on Ruger tuning but it happens when the bolt or cylinder stop pops up earlier than where the lead-in notch is on the cylinder. I suppose it can be minimized but I would consult a Ruger smith or at least search the Ruger Forum under Ruger Smithing section and see if they mention it. Chris S

Cylinder Ring

Old smiths were competent-with the lockwork of those times-at tuning actions to the point that they left a very fine-to almost imperceptible cylinder line.If you ever have the pleasure of reviewing a King custom gun for instance, you realize that this skill was available. Today, no one would pay the premium required to fund such skill, and so it has vanished.

What I'm saying is-yes, it is possible to tune the locking bolt to engage precisely in the cylinder niches, but you won't find anyone doing this anymore, not even Hamilton Bowen, because customers won't pay the kind of daneiro it takes to do this intricate hand fitting.
My recommendation to anyone who finds their cylinder ring objectionable is to invest in some alcohol at the pharmacy, and get a bottle of birchwood casey cold blue. Clean the cylinder, finish clean with the alky, and apply successive layers of cold blue until you get your desired effect. Nope, it won't look good as new, but it can tone down that bright shiny ring.

Here's two links to topic of cylinder turn line on a Ruger. The Ruger site also has a search function so there may be more on this, I just looked at the two most recent. Chris S
