A s&w 629-8, 44 mag, with a 4" barrel. It seems to be in fantastic condition. Previous owner said it had less than 150 rds through it. It came with 200 rds of ammo, a holster, and an ammo pouch. I traded a Sig 2022 40 s&w plus an H&R single shot 45-70.

Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see. Chris S
You definitely got the best end of the deal. All you had to give up were a silly autoshucker and a funny single shot in order to have one of the finest revoovers ever in a great caliber. You done good.
What does the -8 signify?
I dunno. All my smiths are a -something
S&W is very fond of tinkering with their creations, and since they moved away from names, eg; "Combat Magnum", "Combat Masterpiece", "Military and Police", to simple numerical designations, they have denoted the various changes via a dash and a number. Thus, a 629-8 denotes the 8th change for the 629 series.
The "6" as in 629 also denotes stainless, vs. blue steel.
S&W pistols are beautiful and also nice to do shooting. S/W has an M&P Compact, .40cal that goes for $640.00 there are other options also. Your choices will largely depend on how it feels in your hand, how well it shoots, and how much you're willing to pay for it.
Well, I imagine Gunsmith pretty much limits his efforts to the Elmer Keith forum, and he has a summarily low opinion of modern S&W revolvers, but I daresay even he would like the new Combat Magnum, at least in principle.Yes, in the age of outsourcing and various other anti-american programs launched by those who hate us and our country, its just darn amazing that we can get revolvers, like the new Combat Magnum, today.
