hello everyone i bought a ruger super single six the old model that is all original. I was told by a gun store owner that because there was a little bit of play in the 22 LR cylinder that the gun was somehow worth less. I have very little knowledge of this gun and i was wondering if anyone had any knowledge that i should know about this gun. I would very much appreciate any comments. Also i was told that it was worth at the most it was worth 400 dollars if i sold to an individual. It is in good condition or better. Thanks
Also after thinking about what the shop owner had told me that it had too much play. My thought was that because of the need to fit the magnum cylinder in the gun. There would be extra space when you put in the 22 LR cylinder there would obviously be more play because of the extra space, but i did not know for sure. Someone please take me out of my ignorance. THANKS
Thank you very much!!
If both cylinders are original then they will both be the same length in the critical bushing length fore and aft. What he may have been talking about it the play in the rotation at lock up due to the gun having been used a lot or used hard and improperly. Wear on the cylinder notches .
Thank you country gun for your answer.
Also does anyone know what a ruger super single six with original parts is worth in good condition with some play in the cylinders like country gun commented about the wear on the cylinder notches. That is what mine has, i bought it kinda blind and ive done quite a bit of research online but i dont know enough about them yet to have any clue other than i found one that is identical to mine except in perfect condition for 700. Just wondering if the offer i received for 300 from gunshop owner was a slap in the face or fair. Thanks for any info anyone has.
There is too much that needs to be known, and actually seen, for anyone to make a guess blindly. Condition is everything and that has to bee seen to properly evaluate. Sorry but the opinion of someone who doesn't have a lot of experience about what, say, "90% condition" really is, isn't much to lean on.
To a collector ,a three screw Ruger in unfired condition with the original box could be worth, easily 3X what the same gun described as "Light wear 90% without box" would be worth.
Even without the box, or with it and some wear probably around 2-2.5 X.
All I can say, without seeing it is "I have seen that model sell for less and also sell for more depending on condition and can't guess on the actual condition of yours.
I'd add, that if you think it is worth $400 to the right end owner, then a $300 offer from a shop is hardly a "slap in the face".
Thank you again for your response country, your are obviously completely right about those issues. I'm gonna take some pictures of my gun and I will put them up on this forum. Then hopefully if your up for it you could give me your best educated guess on my gun.
Also country gun the 400 dollar valuation was given to me by that same shop owner so I am just trying to find out where I stand.
