I know y'all are out there lurking! somebody's gonna have to break and show off a new gun or something.

I haven't been shooting in a month of Sunday's. My newest gun acqusition is at least two months old and my next custom is sitting at Harton's waiting for the magic touch, so I'm just lurking. I've read every post on Single-Actions and Rugerforum.com and I'm bored so come on out and visit.

I hope this post works, I'm not at all familiar with this format on a forum...so GERONIMO!

Something

It takes a while for these things to take off, meanwhile I have been tuning the site up, getting the bugs worked out.
Thanks for the post--

My computer skill's are very basic and I'm starting to figure the format out. It should be a breeze for other's.

Now you've got the reply feature set up more along the lines of what I've seen on other forums, it makes more sense to me.

I use to think myself pretty savvy with the computers, but building these sites have turned out to be quite a challange!
Added the reply box to the bottom of the thread, See how that works out.

I'm pretty blessed - I get to shoot in the back yard!!! (Mississippi)

It is pretty dead around here. Hopefully it will get active soon.

vgodenwa, you're lucky with the backyard shooting. That's the thing I miss the most since moving to town. Now I have to go about 40 miles one way to shoot on a friend's place, an 80 mile round trip to shoot in this summer heat takes the fun out of it.

Closer to hunting season, things will pick up I'm sure.

That's the one thing I hate about where I live as well. No where to shoot safely. All kinds of mountains and woods all around me. Unfortunately, none of the land has been deeded to me, so I can't take advantage. If I go to a shooting range, my drive is around 45 minutes round trip. Fortunately I have family closer by who are gun enthusiasts who enjoy shooting. I can access there land anytime I want. Besides, everyone around here is still stuck in the "no shoot" mode, due to the ammo price increases over the last year. I have burned alot of powder as of late. One of the most least expensive ways to shoot and enjoy it, is breaking out our ol' .22 rifles. It is good to keep your shooting skills finely tuned.

Shooting/ ammo

Tough to find good places to shoot, and tough to keep the components stocked up. I just got a shipment from Powder valley, 10000 Federal Large Pistol, that I ordered last summer. Hate to admit it, but I've been using Wolfs! We did a group buy (Plates League) the other day and had close to a ton of bullets drop shipped. Everyone is trying to make loads work with less then ideal powder just because that's all that is left on the shelf. Keep placing orders, the stuff continues to trickle in. Don't even ask about all the good gravel pits that keep getting closed...
Everybody needs to chip in and buy me a nice place in the toolies where we can all show up and shoot, I'll supply the Targets, Clays, and Barbeque, and throw in a handfull of Keith 44 specials to boot! (Didn't mean to get of on a rant here...)

Reloading

The small group I shoot with have started falling back on the .22's, it's good practice and we enjoy it just as much as the centerfire's. We all seem to be conserving our centerfire ammo to a certain extent.

I bought 10k ea. of Wolf large and small pistol primers back in the spring. I have never used Wolf but Widener's had them in stock so I took a chance. I havent had to use any yet but I'm getting close.

Albroswift, I don't consider your post a "rant". It's just a fact of life. I once drew the short straw when instructing a new class of firearm's instructors. My punishment was to present a class regarding selecting a location and building a Range. Not only is the subject boring but the amount of reference material recommended by the NRA alone was overwhelming, not to mention my own agency's policy and politic's. What a total goat rope! This was fifteen years ago so I'm surprised there are any public ranges left. I'm very lucky to have a couple of friends with enough land to shoot on without trouble from their neighbors.

Difficulty hunting/shooting.

There is no question that if you are gun hobby serious, you will have to make some changes as our hobbies become more elitest in cost.
Both hunting and shooting are getting difficult and expensive and are a lot of trouble (rules/liability) to solve.
Buying or finding a buddy or a lease with some woods for hunting (even if the hunting ain't that great), and a range of at least 100 yards is becoming a necessity.
Myself, I took a 50% pay cut to take a job where there was land I could shoot/hunt on.
Get yourselves situated as soon as possible before it is too late and we are like England with regard to firearms usage, if not possession.

I can shoot from my back deck, my range is limited to under 50 yds but thats OK since I can't get out past that anyway, being somewhat breathing impaired. I don't shoot in any competitions or anything, just for my own pleasure, so I saved my last few packs of CCI pistol and rifle primers last year when the "shortage" hit and started shooting my 22's. As soon as I found the Wolff primers at Powder Valley I bought some large pistol to try in my 45 Colt loads, So far I have gone through 300-400 rounds with no problems in loading or shooting. Since I realized early on there was a shortage coming I put aside four boxes (factory) of each pistol ammo for my guns to have as a backup. Then I started shooting my 22's and saved my centerfire stuff for the days I really had an urge to shoot them. I am set for right now but I think the 22 shooting is going to continue until things get a lot better (or worse). Chris

Wolf Primers

Work fine in my RBH's, BH's, FA, Kimber, Para, Winchesters, Henry, etc.
The S&W and the Glock competition guns are a different story, (reduced power springs really need Federal Primers)less then 50% fire. Only thing I don't like other then that is all the yellow residue that ideally should reside inside the primer cup and not all over the primer tube on the press.
