Along the lines of the Mad Bohemian, I am starting a book giveaway. This month's book, A very nice like new hardback edition "Encyclopedia of Western Gunfighters" (O'Neal)

Good book

I read this book a few years back. I recall it was a preaty nice read with a lot of basic information on lesser known gunfighters. Good luck to whoever wins it.

I'd like a shot please. Oddly, today at the library, I checked out an old copy of "Wyatt Earp, The Untold Story" by Ed Bartholomew...Documents Wyatt's life from 1848 to 1880, before Tombstone days...

history is written by the survivors....

I have read a few accounts of his life, differing from hero to villain; none quite match up to the movie versions. Reading a book right now, "Triggernometry" written back in the 30's, that the author, Eugene Cunningham, [claims to have] interviewed several people still around from the 1880's, Breckenridge for one. More of a storyline kind of writing then the "Encyclopedia", and a different viewpoint for sure. Good read.

Hitpiece...

Well, I was kinda disappointed with "The Untold Story", Mr Bartholomew's whole point of the book seemed to be discrediting dates and events that didn't quite match up according to old newspaper articles. I think Wyatt was 78 yrs old when "Frontier Marshal" was written about him, when apparently his memory wasn't as keen as his former aim! lol
