Fun Work

Thought I would share my work of late. I tore my Colt New Frontier 45 apart and smoothed everything up and put it back together. Put my old walnut grips one just for a change of pace and thought it would shoot a bit better. So to date it has a new rear ellaison sight, smoothing job and old walnut grips. It's too much fun working on guns so now I will load some new ammo up to try it out. Chris

Last Colt

I "borrowed" this from another forum so please forgive me. I just couldn't resist not sharing this with everyone. Wondering who owns it now? Chris

New Sight

I got tired of the old Accro rear sight on my New Frontier so I bought a new Elliason rear sight to replace it. Actually I bought two and replaced the one on my Python too as that needed help. Those old rear sights were just to sloppy and hard to keep adjusted as the screws didn't always stay where they were set. With the new Elliason there is no slop what so ever! Didn't take long as the sight holes etc. are the same, simply tapped out the pin and unscrewed the adjustment screw so the sight could be removed and the little springs and the new sight installed.

Alaskan guide guns

Thought it would be interesting to see what sidearms were carried by the guides of an Alaskan moose and grizzly hunt camp. It was interesting to see that four of the five revolvers were 44 Mag and number five was in 500 S&W. The top gun in the group picture is my FA`s 44 Mag. The next is S&W`s new lightweight 329 followed by two Ruger Super Blackhawks and a S&W model 29. The only load/cartridge I could confirm was Speer`s 270gr JFP ammo that was loaded in the lightweight S&W.

Would Elmer Have Been Pleased?

Redhawk44mag001

Members, I`am thinkin that Elmer Keith would have been satisfied with a Ruger  Redhawk to house his beloved .44 Magnum cartridge. What do you guys think???

Callahan

I was reading Boge Quinn's article on antiquing his Uberti, which got me curious enough to follow the link to Uberti's site. Noticed that they are listing the "Callahan" 44 magnum. I recall that Ubertis previous attempts into Ruger territory met with mixed results. Their short lived 454 was, to my knowledge, never distributed in this country. I recall speculation was that the gun would come apart with mad dog American shooters.

Old cop gun

I picked up this little gem, it used to be a Troy, NY police department gun. It has been refinished, but the gun was cheap enough and the action is very nice. Can't wait to shoot it.

Boar with Freedom Arms 44mag

Went hunting boar at Tioga Ranch in Pennsylvania last month and took two boar using my Freedom Arms 44mag with their fiber optic front sight and square notch rear. Handload had a Swift 280gr A-frame over a stiff charge of H-110. Sat down with my back against tree and barrel rested on cross sticks. When the first boar stepped out of the sun into the shade of the forest he stopped Iand I hit him next to his left eye and dropped him instantly.
