Smith & Wesson Nightguard

Does anyone have any experience with the Nightguard series? A local gun shop has a Nightuard in .357 magnum at a very reasonable price. $600.00 is what they're asking. Is thata fair price? Thanks

Making It Clear

I guess through my rambling comments I didn't make my question clear about the .44 special. I don't and never have questioned the viability of the round. I was asking why, with the advent of the many fine handguns chambered  for the .44 magnum, would a person own a handgun chambered specifically for the .44 special? I do not discount the collectability of the old .44 specials such as those Sixgunner owns or the custom single actions being built.   For example I am going to save for a Smith & Wesson .44 something or other.

Handgun Cartridges

I've noticed a couple of questions regarding handgun cartridges. Seems that they  revolve-pun intended-around practical vs. hallowed perspectives. I submit, that it is impossible to remove any proven handgun cartridge from the realm of myth and history, legend, and aura.

What's So .44 Special

At the risk of showing my very limited ballistic and sixgun experience, and having Sixgunner and or others here forumally (get it, FORUMally) rip my head off, I'm going to ask the question, what is so special about the .44 special? I mean a gun dedicated specifically to shooting the .44 special. I realize the .44 special round itself has a lot to offer as a self defense round and hunting round. I see so much of Sixguns.com and this forum dedicated to Elmer Keith, but didn't he devote much of his time pushing the .44 special to what is now magnum limits?

State of the Sixgun in 2011

Friday, I made my first trip to the NRA annual meeting and
its great trade show. Lots of fun. Thought you guys might like to know the
state of the sixgun. If you ever get the chance -GO. The guns are out to handle
and the factory reps even encourage dry firing.

Elmer Keith Commemoritive 29

There is a model 29-3 Elmer Keith commemoritive revolver up for bid on Gunbroker.com if anyone is interested. There's about three days left on the auction with no bidders yet. They started the bidding at $1094.95.   Just click on revolvers and search smith and wesson Elmer Keith and it pops up.

Buffalo Bore Ammo

Does anyone have experience with the Buffalo Bore .44 special ammo. Their web-site says not to shoot the .44 magnum out of the Smith. Is the .44 special  JHP safe to shoot out of my model 29-2?  I know the web-site says it's safe but I would like to hear some personal experience. Also is it a good self defense load for the Smith? Thanks, Paul

Ok I get it

After reading several postings I get the feeling that most of the forum members like the big bores. (might be an understatement) I carry my Hi-Power because I shoot it very well left handed. I am left eye dominant. I can't hit squat with it right handed and I am right handed. But with my Smitty model 29 I can shoot just as well with either hand. I don't get it but I don't question it. I know the 9mm is a mouse gun compared to the .44 but if I can put six rounds downrange accurately in the same amount of time it takes me to put one round of .44 downrange I don't feel at a disadvantage.

Smith trigger

So here is my question. I have a wide target trigger with serrations on my model 29. I wouls like to replace it with a narrower smooth combat trigger. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, Paul

I picked up another Model 10

I found another Model 10 since I needed a warm weather carry gun. I snagged this little 10-5. It had a set of Pachmayr's on it but I put these old wooden grips on it.
